Burgundy is not my thing but this was nice. Very open and drinkable with a great mouthfeel and good finish. Out of 12 different wines for some of our group this was their wotn.

This was really shut down. I don’t know if it’s just in transition, or perhaps there was some flaw that I couldn’t specifically identify. For that reason I’m not scoring but it would have been low 80’s. I’ll wait several years to try the next and hopefully it’s a different story then.
dried rose, cherry, dried herbs, roasted shiitake, and white pepper. took an hour to start to open. prickly acid and fine tannins. classic silky volnay mouthfeel. lovely now but this will shine in 5 years

in an awkward stage but this does eventually give way to more classic aromas of dried herbs, spice box over aging red cherry with bits of soy sauce, damp leaves, rose petal, cardamom and red licorice. Juicy and fresh in the mouth with appropriate acidity. Ends with a bit of drying tannin but retains the classic Volnay charm. Good wine, even at this transitionary stage. Try again in 3-4 years to check in.
