London Blind Challenge (Vinotecca, London.): Blind. This screams Riesling on the nose. Couldn't be anything else. Very petrolly with a Limey freshness. Auslese weight, though almost not quite the sweetness I'd expect. Seems quite evolved. Maybe eating it's sugar. So, one of the Mosel vintages I think. About fifteen years old, so 98? ****. (Quite surprised to see it's an 02 BJS GK — maybe an awkward phase. As I type these up I've opened a half on the 98 non-GK of this, and it's far sweeter and more harmonious).

Dinner at Lantern with Dick & Amy. AP #9-03. Almost colorless, with just the slightest hint of green. Nicely balanced and medium bodied, I knew this was the wrong time to open such a wine, but did any way. Starting it's slumber after the exuberance of youth, this wine showed very primary and closed with lime, slate and flowers present. Lusciously sweet and with a medium length finish, this wine deserves 10+ years, or a long decant. Should be really nice after a long sleep. 50+12+12+8+8 = 90++

AP #9-03. Slight green tinge to an otherwise clear wine. The nose was explosive as soon as the glass was raised off the table. Clearly very young, but approachable at this stage since it does not seem to have closed down yet, the palate hits you with a slight spritz and refreshing, crisp acidity. Sweet but in nice balance with the acidity. The aromas and flavors included peaches, pears, other yellow fruits, candied citrus, melon, pineapple and minerals. The great purity of a Fritz Haag wine was evident in this full bodied and unctuous offering, the Haag signature concentration and power mixed with a delicate nature there for all to see. A long finish ends the experience, one which will only get better in time. 50+13+12+8.5+8.5 = 92+.
