  • Medium golden in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of rich, ripe fruit aromas of lemons/lime, orange rind & stone fruits notes of apricots & peaches with overtones of floral notes of honeysuckle, exotic spices, minerals, slate, honey & a hint of caramel in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, complex, lush & rich, ripe fruit flavors of dried apricots, sweet yellow peaches, tangy tangerines/oranges, melon, exotic spices of allspice & cloves, honey, minerals & a hint of caramel. Long lingering finish with some bracing acidity. At 38 years of age, it is at or quite close to its peak of development but given its firm structure, it should hold for several more years although any further development may be minimal. [A.P. Nr. 2 577 049 9 84; Alc. 8%] Ullage was about 1/2" below neck of bottle; cork was clean & intact.

    A birthday treat

Golden in color. This is a wine of focus, clarity and purity. A beautiful, deep and pure nose. kaffir lime, honey, apple, slate. There is tactile presence and density without weight. Fresh, clean deep and pure on the palate. More of the same fruits and mineral on the palate, with a cooler green herbal- basil freshness. This is a wine of harmony, with nearly perfectly balanced fruit, acid, sugar and slate. Power and grace. A great juxtaposition of complexity and unity, there is a ton of nuance and multiple facets that all coalesce into a greater seamless whole. A meditative, fantastic wine drinking at peak. One of the most complete wines I have drunk in a long time. Fantastic and at peak for me. 97

  • Silly me I have one of the finest wines of my life and don't take a note on it! I'm writing this from memory as I wanted to get this reference point wine listed. This was one of the ultimate Mosel wines. Crystalline purity of fruit and mineral flavors that were very deep and complex. The wine continued to reveal more and more with every sip. This was a bottle I truly hated to see empty. A wonderful treat to celebrate good friend's 20th Anniversary ( 1983, thus I chose this bottle ).
