Community Tasting Notes (5) Avg Score: 90.9 points

  • Deep ruby. Nice plummy fruit on nose and palate, luscious texture. Soft resolved tannins. Previous bottle of this was disconcertingly stale and oxidized, so there seems to be some bottle variation. This bottle more than makes up for past disappointment. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Muscardin, Terret Noir.

  • Southern Rhône trip with Rainer. Tasted at the Domaine. 14.5% ABV. Medium ruby colour; lighter in colour than the 2016. Medium-bodied, less full and concentrated and more red fruit-driven and elegant than the 2016 Prestige. Long, with good, lively acidity, but with plenty of dry tannin. Some heat from the alcohol, too. As with the 2016 Prestige, I am concerned that the dry tannin will never really settle and outlast the fruit. 89(?)

  • A bit too funky for my taste.

  • Popped and poured; consumed over five hours. Brilliant garnet color. Initially, this was painfully primary: smelling and tasting like cherry flavored Robitussin. I was rather put off by it to be honest. However, after an hour, my second glass was a transformation. While still very primary, the 'Tussin was replaced with red rope licorice and red plums. After hour four, this was an utterly captivating wine. It had gained weight and showed an abundance of mixed forest fruits with whiffs of gym sock and garrigue. Tannins are stiff by CdP standards and lip smacking acid makes for a rather protracted finish that lingers in the back corners of the tongue. This was really a stunning wine after ample air. Drink after a lengthy decant or hold until after 2020.

  • The opulent, sexy textures are a knock out. The fruit is fresh, sweet and pure with a finish that is truly generous, spicy and silky. This should be a pleasure to drink young and it can age a bit as well.
