This has a great balance of ripe blackberry fruit and elegance, not at all heavy. Touch of balsamic and dark chocolate. Structure is quite soft now, both acidity and tannin. Easy drinking, ready to go. Longish finish, some complexity. Drink now, will last a few years.

I could sniff this all night - cassis, blueberries, soft leather, mint, eucalyptus. Definitely not a fruit bomb, much closer to the mature Burgundian end of cote rotie - feminine and beguiling. I was a little more taken with the nose than the pallet. Whilst the wine is elegant and delicious, there’s a slight prunish vegetal thing going on. It’s not off putting but the fruit lacked a bit of freshness. I’ve read reviews which suggest the life span of Underhill is shorter than the equally delicious YY Dry Red Wine #2. Maybe this is passing it’s peak.

Medium minus intensity aromas of slightly reductive, leather, earth, bacon fat, touch of charcuterie, polished oak and some bramble and blackberry underpin. Juicy with a touch of sourness, savoury, leathery and earthy, tannins are drying grippy and a little chalky textured though the fruit persists, almost a touch of green apple, orange peel here as well on the finish. Okay.
