  • Deeper color, smells and looks a bit more advanced than I'd prefer but digging in a little shows nice weight and richness, a broader shouldered Riesling grown on quartz in contrast to the Mosels, peach apricot and very honeyed stone fruit most prevalent here, certain spices from the fruit bring out the floral character giving the wine some tenderness, lighter bodied than I expected for Auslese from 2005 which was great for pairing with the spicy Chinese food.

  • Really nice, on the honey side

  • Drinking really beautifully right now. Sweetness is balanced well. Lots of apple and minerals on both nose and palate. Very smooth and with good length and freshness on the finish. May have some upside from here.

  • #14-06. Notes of honey and golden apples. Quite floral on the nose, with a modest hint of sulphur. Slight hint of effervescence. The plentiful sweet golden apple flavours make it seem like that this is a tad light on the acid though it certainly isn't. Feels like this still has a big layer of baby fat to shed. Nonetheless, excellent, well-made wine.

  • I tried all my '05 Schlossgut Diels again this year. Maybe I was getting a little nervous because I didn't enjoy ANY of the library releases of older vintages, so what was the point of aging them? Well, the spatlese is still stellar. The ausleses have been mixed. This was by far the best of the three, although I still think the extra fat and richness in the auslese wasn't worth the tradeoff of the spatlese's awesome dynamic energy. Nevertheless, this was luscious and bright, not losing its tarnish like the Goldloch seemed to be. It is certainly very sweet to the point that you can drink it both with dinner and dessert, but it's freakin' delicious enough that you want to keep sipping it even after the sweetness starts to become a bit tiring.
