Literally the same experience as my last with a pristine bottle and a surprise crumbly cork. The wine itself was in great condition, drinking much younger than its years. It was my last bottle and I almost wish I had saved it. Pnp and then drank over several hours while it warmed up from cellar temp. Opened on a whim to compare with a 1998 Peyre Rose Clos de Cistes which was the theme of our dinner. They were equally good but mind blowing they could be the same grape at the same age. The Lewis was much more primary and full of purple fruit, with hints of savory and spice that should become more prominent in future years. A fun experiement.
A library purchase from the winery and the bottle was in perfect condition, but the Cork crumbled like nearly all of the older Lewis corks seem to do... BlackBerry fruit and plenty of savory notes, I really enjoyed it but it is on the down side of its drinking curve. Lots of sediment which did not have enough time to settle out before I opened this. The 1999 was much better and had more life ahead.
