Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 92.3 points

  • Opaque ruby color, dense full bodied, rich jammy blackberry and blueberry flavors, plenty of alcohol but no discernible tannins. The initial taste is very powerful and fruity. Almost a port. It is best right after opening. This wine would get a higher score from me if it had a spice finish. But it’s fun to quaff.

  • 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (T&L's): Double blind. Massive and inky- stains the glass and one's teeth. One dimensional but enjoyable bouquet dominated by barbeque sauce- it's sweet and smoky, and a touch meaty. Like a wine glass full of KC Masterpiece or something along those lines. Develops a buttered popcorn note with air which, for me, is a bit distracting. Firm, with searing tannin and ripe black fruit. This is bigger than any SQN I've had, so I guessed petite sirah. I can see where this has fans, and I suppose this would be great with a brisket, but it is not something I would seek out to drink on a regular basis- just something to scratch that certain itch I get on occasion (but that's why I have SQN, so...).

  • Great night with friends. No notes. Each wine had about 30 minute decant unless otherwise noted. No clue how to do user story. 2010 Schrader GIII, 2009 Abreau, 2013 Staglin, 2015 Beast, 2015 Maybach A, 2015 Lewis Cellars Syrah, 2016 Carter Las Piedras La Bam.

Such a quaffable wine. Different planet than the Cabernets but so enjoyable and easy drinking. Dark fruits, almost too sweet but stays enough inline to not over power the lineup nor make it too hard to drink. Crowd pleaser.

  • Super extracted, very young, almost a dessert wine. Dark and opaque. It was enjoyable but you have to like this highly extracted style. I'm going to lay my other bottles down for a long sleep in the cellar in hopes that it will lose fruit and gain balance.
