  • Last bottle (I think), purchased after an awesome tasting at the vineyard in 2016. This almost falls under my forgotten bottles category, its been a while. PnP, drank with Charlotte with some burgers, roasted potatoes and grilled peppers...drank over 90 minutes

Dark purple ruby core, thinning at the edges. Nose started out with damp earth, reticent fruit. After about 30 minutes was showing black cherry and herbs along with the earth notes. Palate was at its best about an hour in: Black raspberry, red berries, bramble, underbrush, floral. Tannins softened, medium body and finish.

Great showing, better than expected. I thought the wine may have been more faded by now. It took about 20 minutes to show, peaked at around 60 minutes. When at its best, the combination of earth driven nose and bright red and blue fruits. In a good zone tonight, great wine from a great vintner....

  • I completely agree with the last two notes. This has a real sense of place and distinctive Pinot characteristics. Very well done indeed and will last. Notably better than a 2012 Ocio Pinot from a couple of nights before.

  • Sour cherry on nose with heaps of herbal notes.
    Inky deep, impenetrable dark garnet.

    Profoundly peppery pinot.
Deep and complex it blooms in the mouth, the sour cherry rather than acidity persists at the back of the palate.
    Lembranças de Ginjinha!
A seriously lasting finish, with traces of plum and hints of cacao.

A prolonged decant might open this up a bit more?
It got 2 1/2 hours, we couldn’t wait longer, the duck was crisping nicely.

“It’s PN Jim, but not as we know it!”

  • San Antonio Wine Region in Chile - 3 Great Tastings (San Antonio, Chile): A great visit to the winery in San Antonio Chile to experience their wines. First introduced to their wines with the 04 vintage through a garagiste offering. I had this one in their fantastic restaurant with a multi course lunch after our first tasting.

Darker purple/ruby color than most Pinots (seems to be the signature for the region). Elegant nose of dark cherry, earth notes. Palate of red and dark fruits, cherry, black raspberry, floral notes. Medium body with nice tannic structure suggesting a fair amount of development ahead of it. Really nice now with the excellent food at the CM restaurant...should continue to develop for another 3-5 and drink well for a while past that. Casa Marin is a really unique new world profile - not Oregon, not California, not NZ - it has its own signature and sense of place...this wine has upside, score probably goes higher in time
