Screwcap, 11.5% alc. Pale gold. Strongly fragrant nose of lemon and lime, grass, soap, some toast and honey emerging. Relatively advanced. Light/Medium bodied and and fluffy palate initially, before the acid rolls in on the finish, tightening up the palate and driving the wine reasonably long, and taut. Controlled. Enjoyable food wine right now.

Hunter Whistlestop 2022 (Hunter Valley): Lemon and lime, slight grassy underpin, very fresh despite 6 years of age. medium plus intensity acidity is very slightly sharp, textured burr to the mid palate, again this is quite citric on the palate. Medium plus length, time required. Lots of it.

{screwcap, 11.5%} Still pale straw, still quite fresh and grassy on the nose. Perhaps a smoky, earthy hint of aromas and flavours, but it’s still vibrant with minimal development. Even when Belford is young it always seems to me to have a bit of earth to it. It’s barely medium-bodied, with medium, softening acidity, with hints of cut grass, brown leaves and sandy loam on the palate. Even on the palate, low key for flavour development, medium length finish. Decent example, no rush to drink - probably best left another five years or so.

Talc, lemon peel, candied honey hints and an unusual smoky character on the nose. The mid palate is not as rich as most Belford semillon. The palate has a spine of refreshinglynlifted acidity that is just made for shellfish. A slight green aftertaste reflects the wet vintage. Whatever, there is enough soapy semillon fruit to carry the acidity.

Good now but I expect it will build flavour over next 5 years. It will never have the intensity nor acid of other better Belford vintages.
