Day 1: Earth, menthol, dark fruits, spice and black pepper. A heavy wine without good acidity. Normally like this wine but this vintage not delivering. Hopefully better on day 2. 87 points Day 2: While not up to my expectations of this wine it is much better on day 2. Black pepper, menthol, earth, dark fruits, roasted meats and chalk. Medium plus finish. 91 points Day 3: More balanced on day 3 but still nothing to get too excited about. Sour cherry, menthol, blueberries, earth, tar and roasted meats. Somewhat chalky finish. 91 points Recommendation: I would hold this for a few more years. Not impressed with this vintage of the Cattle King.

Stored in a cllmate controlled cellar since purchase upon release. Similar experience from last year, though we learned to just PnP rather than decant. To minimize the alcohol, I would recommend to open and keep the bottle near cellar temperature and consume within 2-3 hours. Pure hedonism (to the point of gluttony), showcasing vivid (and near overripe) dark red and black fruits complicated by herbs, mint, violets, and lavender. With time, dark chocolate emerged, with all flavors following on the palate which is full-bodied, ultra smooth and silky, leading to an explosive and lingering finish. Quite pleasurable for what it is! I see no reason to wait any more if you have them.

Had to pop the almighty Cattle King for ribeye night at the Seaver household. I love this one. Felt like it might be slightly past peak drinking, very little tannin structure, but had the classic bloody/meaty mouthfeel. This reminds me so much of Northern Rhone Syrah, I don't think there is anybody else in the new world that could compete with old world like this does. Such a great bottle. Great work House of Smith

Wished I’d waited a few more years on this - or had decanted. Still quite tannic but had no option to decant at dinner. This wine has great structure - but needs more time or 90+ minute decant. Btw, I am no fan of high alcohol wines, but the high levels here were not as evident as feared.
