  • I see I drank a bottle of this wine two years ago. Since then, it has oxidised somewhat but, paradoxically, emerged as a greater wine = beautiful dark brick but completely perlucid colour; nose of dark fruit, soil and quality rottenness (but perfumed rottenness - the only acceptable type); taste is wonderfully smooth. The quasi farmyard is still there, but behind that is an absolute quality of fruit.

This is a wine (and, actually, a lot of the top wines are like this) that pulls apart our conventional notions of what a "good wine" is. Hence, the almost impossibility of fitting them in to the points system.

  • Dark brooding nose of dark fruit, soft leather and grass; the flavour follows through with the brooding quality. Silky texture and good mouth feel, but rather thin around the edges (a little too much acidity).

Like so many mid-range red Burgundies, this is a gentle ethereal wine, but it is difficult to get excited about it.
