Still a youthful opaque crimson in color, Malk's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon remains loaded with dark black and blue fruit that is accented with baking spices, savory herbs, bittersweet chocolate and pipe tobacco. Full-bodied, proportionately oaked and with well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), it has a sturdy backbone of fresh acidity and plentiful polished tannins. Dense on the mid-palate and lengthy on the back end, this is fleshing out beautifully. I suspect that it will last longer than previously projected. This particular bottle was decanted off of its sediment and serially tasted over three hours. Give it an hour or more in carafe if possible. Drink now-2034.

Not as much fruit as good Hall wines, which, for me, provide the perfect balance. It had more sediment than I thought it should and did not open up much, even after decanting for over an hour. So I think it's not quite ready, but might be exceptional after a couple more years of rest. For essentially the same price, however, there are several Halls I like much better. It did open up rather nicely in the glass and more of the fruit came forward. I'm satisfied.

Bought a 2013 and 2014 since I love sld in napa. I drank this first as 2013 are tight and need time. The sld terroir is here and there is deep and silky cab fruit and gravel. But the residual sugar and woodiness kinda brought it down a couple notches. It still was too early to drink and 2014 is basically the loser of the two vintages before and after, but do vintages even matter much in napa anymore. Who knows. This is definitely not a bad wine and the price at costco was fair and perhaps I'm underrating. I would hold.

It is a smooth cab with finesse. Alcohol is reasonable and fruit is there. No strong nose. Over all pleasant to drink and serve.
