Barolo including a Giacosa Rionda Riserva Vertical (Maialino, Gramercy Park Hotel, NYC): [Decanted at 6pm. Drunk about 8pm.] Dark black fruit nose. Monumental in the mouth. Incredibly rich and tannic. A big dark wine of incredible proportions. Serralunga fruit is much more reminiscent of the Riondas than the Bartolo. Continues to get better with more air. No points given by request of the winemaker. See http://www.finewinegeek.com/cappellano/#noscores

1990 Barolo: Modern vs. Traditional (private home): [I was told this was only "Franco" grapes, but it does not say so on the label.] Amazing nose of balsam, soy, black cherries. Rich balanced. A stunning wine of great complexity. Amazing length. A great, great wine!No points given by request of the winemaker. See http://www.finewinegeek.com/cappellano/#noscores

Dark, rich, chocolate, so good!! The biggest wine of the night by far next to 90' Giacosa riserva and 99' Monfortino.

1/3/2020 - Ben H. Likes this wine:
An extraordinarily vigorous and youthful wine for its age. Explosive. Double-decanted for 3 hours. This 1990 far outshone a recent bottle of the 1989.
