Consistent with prior bottles of this wine I have consumed, it's light bodied but not insubstantial. There's a true elegance yet also a sense of rusticity. This is not Auslese packed with sugar and polished to a high sheen. It's classical, and looks back to a time when wines were made to drink, not admire. It's thirst quenching, only moderately sweet, and very food friendly.

Outstanding wine! Petrol, honey, stewed pear, pineapple and mineral. Medium-heavy weight with nice balance attack on the onset with fruits(mandarin, lychee among others) in equilibrium before the acidity kicks in.

Another excellent bottle, though this was a leaker and came across a little more advanced than I'd expect - there's a faint smoky and honeyed patina framing the fresh fruit and minerality here, but it's superbly balanced with moderate sweetness, bright acids and good length.

Leo's Blind Tasting Group - March '13 edition (Hearth, NYC): Absolutely stunning Riesling. This has it all; layers of youthful, fresh Mosel fruit, slatey minerality, maturing smokiness and petrol notes and higher toned floral and herbal elements that come together seamlessly on the nose and palate. This is classical, traditional Auslese with less sweetness than some modern Kabinett, and there's a sense of sheer lightness and drinkability that makes each glass disappear all too quickly.

(Schmitt-Wagner Longuicher Maximiner Herrenberg Riesling Auslese) ($15.00) A juice-bomb, so easy and loveable, bright and greeny and vivid and by no means too “sweet” – certainly many modern Späts (and more than a few Kabinetts) are as sweet or sweeter.
