Restrained wine. Needs time and air to unfold. Light color, shy nose. Relatively complex bouquet with notes of herbs, red currents, lots of black fruit. Medium silky finish.

I was in the mood for a Tablas red and so drank this on its own across several nights and it did not disappoint. Very Good++. Oddly, I got a faint must on the nose most of the time while the other taster never did, which is strange. In any case, it wasn't off-putting. Lovely wine, cruising along, no hurry as this gains more depth and character with air, but doesn't really need much either. Grenache in the barely in the lead vs. Syrah at 39% vs. 35%. I think the Grenache is definitely the most expressive here, probably getting a profile assist from the 16% Counoise. (10% Mourvedre)
14.5% abv - shows no heat, great restraint and balance.

This is two wines in one as I have experienced before with this bottling. Wine 1:Upon opening Grenache dominates. Lovely acidity, racy, fresh strawberries. Delicious. Wine 2: After several hours of air the Syrah and mouvedre show up to the party and take over. Dirt, earth and a little murkiness. Dark, rich and smooth. Depending on what you like pick your poison. Drank over 2 days.

This is in a nice spot now. Still has some bright red Grenache fruit and spice up front, but particularly with air shows black fruits, baked earth and some tertiary elements.
Note: Tablas Creek's Feb. 2021 vintage chart bumped this to "Mature" (with a decant recommended). The prior two vintages were still at "Youthful", so this seems to be a CdT for earlier drinking. My experience confirms that. For well-stored bottles, perhaps through 2024?
Excellent wine, much improved vs. my "Very Good" TN 3 1/2 years ago. Not surprising as I seem to like Tablas's Grenache vintages with some age on them.

Better than last time: smoot and open. Like a fresh and young C9dP. Good length. Will hold many more years.
