Historic note (recorded Aug 06). A rare find - from Butlers in Brighton. Expensive (£75; $120) but in a remarkable state of preservation - doesn't look old at all. Nice gamey aromas but a bit muddy and diffuse. A dense, beefy wine in flavour in an old fashioned style; some fruit but harsh tannins too - It is a Cotes du Rhone and tastes like one - albeit a very dense one. Hermitage it is not. Great power and would last for ever but a bit ordinary.
