This magnum showed new world nose but with the iffy characteristics of an poor vintage. On the palate this had complexity and length, it was also disjointed and stewy, and devolved to show astringency on the finish. Shame!

Annual DBGCBU lunch: An absolute treat. Initially some reduction which blew off after a short time. Opened up like a flower in spring with beautiful perfume, game, roast meats all wrapped in a robe of red fruits. Quite supple on the palate with an amazing texture and fine tannins. A very balanced, elegant wine which is drinking well now. This wine is a classic from a true master.

Lunch at Blue Fin with Tom and Chantelle. This wine is a baby. Don't touch for 10 more years minimum. Lovely notes of roses and saddle. Firmly tannic in the mouth and showing some fruit. Everything is there but it will take time.
