I think this is a much better Zinfandel than some people are giving it credit for. When I read that the Wine Enthusiast had given this 84 points, complaining about the astringent tannins, I wondered if we had tasted the same wine. From my point of view this wine has all the characters that indicate a long life, such as lower alcohol for a Zin (14.5%), higher acidity, bright fruit with good depth, and the need for airing (an hour at least to bring out the best). I've seen these same characters in many older Sonoma County Zins that have stood the test of time. This is anything but a big, high alcohol, jammy, over-ripe Zin. It's already showing some good complexity. Very good right now but I am confident it will get better with bottle age.

Another 88 Point bottle. Very similar to the previous bottles, bottle prior to last nights. This bottle was had with a nice thin-crust pepperoni pizza, probably a better pairing then last night’s corned beef. LOL

Moving this bottle down a point. It was ok, but just a bit discombulated. Still fairly light. Not overly syrupy or spicy, just a bit flat. Again though, for $10, one really no leg to stand on in regards to criticism. Paired this with a Corned Beef Scramble (leftovers from St. Paddy’s Day). Nice combo of corned beef, potatoes, peppers and onions. Not sure if they helped each or or made things worse, LOL. This year’s Grilled Corned Beef was not my finest effort... just saying. I’m blaming the Damned Beef though!
