Bill's Monthly Lunch - January 2012 (Vancouver, BC): Tasted blind – no formal notes. Medium red bricking at the rim. Sweeter aromas and flavours of red fruits that was fairly well balanced. I never would have guessed this to be a Cali Zin. Good.

Really lovely. This has softened but the fruit remains vibrant. I have long thought that the KJL Zin has been under appreciated compared to other Sonoma Valley zins, most notably St. Francis and Ravenswood and this confirms it. This is remarkably good for a 1998 zin. Claret styled and balanced with moderate alcohol, this is a nice food wine. Still deep in color with virtually no bricking. Brambly with a little spice. Very smooth. This is at peak. The second night, the fruit had started to fade with a few oxidative notes creeping in. Drink now.

Medium red. Some pretty sweet red fruit and tobasso in the nose, definetly some alc. Slightly sweet entry and a thinnish finish. Nice with cheese.
