  • Very nice but also very modern. Lots of fruit and oak.

  • Sat, 01/06/18, $2 Tasting: From distributor's web site: https://www.skurnik.com/sku/rioja-crianza-vina-herminia-2-2/
    -100% Tempranillo
-Aged 3 months in American oak
-Aged 6 months in bottle before release

N: Fragrant cherries, plums, & certainly vanilla

P: LM body; NICE, almost swtish frt/oak met by some ALMOST puckerish astringency which slowly transitions into a LONG, bitter/swt finish with an earthy tanginess that invites another sip. LOVELY now & into '21 min, + may improve into early Fall '18 min. VERY nicely done! My EXC-/EXC. 95 pts Decanter as "Best Red Rioja of the Year" & Platinum Award, 87 WS, & Silver @ '16 Int'l Wine & Spirits Comp. [Tasted @ this vendor's, I believe, now unavailable $14.95, though early Feb '18's wine-searcher still shows several U.S. sources from $14-$18.]

  • Excellent QPR ! moderate bouquet of forest, evergreen; mouthfeel is moderate tannins, relatively high acidity, tart in first hour, mellowing from then on; flavors of plum, dark cherry. Smooth, clean finish.

  • Not a great wine, but OK. Kind of thin for a Rioja but good flavor.

  • Sat, 11/11/17, $2 Tasting (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): From distributor's web site: https://www.skurnik.com/sku/rioja-crianza-vina-herminia-2-2/
    -100 % Tempranillo
-Aged 3 months in American oak
-Aged 6 months in bottle before release

N: Earth slightly atop vanilla; oranges more than berries? notes of smoke?

P: Med, poss MF, body; RNDISH entry with almost swtish frt met by a bitterish astringency with very, VERY fine tannins, all of this somewhat resolving into a LONG, bitterswt finish with the swtness ULTIMATELY gaining hand. Approachable now, this DESERVES well into, if not through, '19, then drinking for several more. 95 Points, Decanter, "Best Red Rioja of the Year", Platinum Award; 87 pts WS, & Silver @ '16 Int'l Wine & Spirits Comp. Attractive QPR even @ this vendor's $14.95, which, TOTALLY atypically, is near the bottom of the pricing on wine-searcher.
