  • Richer in body than I expected but most of that is because of the residual sugar. Not that it's real sweet. The sugar is very well stitched in lending weight over sugar as these higher quality wines often do. Lovely mellow expression for Gewurz with the beginning glow of maturity. Could use more acid of course but given the grape source and the choice quality its forgiven. Obviously great pairing for those spicy, expressive Asian dishes that might be more challenging to match. I've always found a good Gewurz to be terrific with less spicy dishes that match the savory with the sweet, too. This has a long life ahead of it and I thought it more integrated on night two.

  • Medium amber.
    Sweet.
    Full bodied, complex, long finish.
Stone fruits&t topical fruits on the nose with some marmalade .
    Lychees, figs, prunes palate.
Difficult to know what to drink this with (food wise.)
Very good wine, may improve, I probably, on current showing, drink this pre-dinner or with dessert.
Have enjoyed Gewürztraminer with curry in the past, but I think this is too sweet.

  • This was consumed over about three weeks, drinking it on about five occasions. I took no notes as I was too busy enjoying it. The most recent CT TNs (TASTARK, JULIANSKEELS, PANOSKAKAVIATOS) say it well.

I'll add that the final night was the best. About three ounces were left in the bottle for at least five days since the previous taste (just air, no gas, no suction). That says something about how this unfolds with air, gaining depth. Beautiful wine. 13.5% abv.

Glad to have another. Need to keep my hands off of it for at least four more years.

  • Contrary to Julian's comment below, I really think this has plenty of ability to age. The wine clocks in at 13.5% but still exhibits a fair amount of residual sugar. The acidity is fantastic. This has all the components necessary for long term aging. That said, there's no harm drinking this in the short term as it is absolutely delicious right now. The color is a golden yellow. The nose is quite expressive of white flowers and pear and has a hint of white pepper. Those notes follow through on the palate, where you are also greeted by a non-cloying level of residual sugar and a heavy dose of glycerin. Very weighty mouthfeel and a super long, lip-smacking finish. Went perfect with Vietnamese food. Yum. Drink or hold.

  • The acidity in the Hengst is noticeably higher than the Windsbuhl in 2015 - because this is less ripe, sweet and dense. I think this will drink after only a few years, but the Windsbuhl really needs longer. This also has noticably more pepper on the finish. My sense is to drink this in the nearer-term as I am not sure if has the stuffing for extended ageing. I would drink 2020-2030. 91-92pts
