  • Dark purple in the glass. Very little bricking. Dark raspberry, maybe some pepper and anise on the nose. Faded raspberry and cherry on the front of the tongue, with mocha, chocolate, and burnt rubber finishing up. Some earth. It's O.K. On its way to death. Drink up.

  • Still dark purple, medium to full extraction, lusty nose of dark berries. Initially the fruit was pretty monotlithic, giving a fair amount of blackberry and raspberry, but this wine is probably on the downhill in terms of fruit. It almost reminded me of an old claret in terms of the fruit going away and, after some time in the glass for this Zin, giving up secondary flavors of mocha and chocolate. Good wine, but my advice is drink up if you have any left.

  • from magnum last evening with bbq ribs and a large table of friends in cool pinetop, AZ. this seemed to me to be the quintessential CA zin. jammy raspberries and pepper, super balance, nice mouth-feel, full body. at 14.5% alcohol, it will never be mistaken for a turley or a martinelli, but, so what? i thought it was delicious. $55 from the mailing list. in general, i think this is a terrific winery.

  • ($28) The nose on this wine says to me, "I'm a spicy Zin, but not over-the-top, and not claret-like, either. Classy, spicy, clovy, and lush." Medium to full in body with nice red fruits and a little structure and tang. Not bad.

  • ($33) Anise and spice nose…deep color but far from opaque. The palate is ripe and full-bodied but the acids in the wine give it an edgy, lighter feel. Nice wine for what we paid in a restaurant.
