The way that Russell's wines mellow after several years in the bottle is just special. They need the time to resolve the alcohol a bit and they really settle into fantastic wines.

Really delicious, although I think I preferred a HS Nuts & Bolts from a more recent year; this didn't quite have the freshness to match the dark intensity of the fruit, but it was really lovely. Started off with a VERY pungent cured meat note, interesting stuff, but overwhelmed the fruit for a while. Gave way eventually to prunes, roasted plums, etc. Pretty good buy at $40 but didn't have the addictive pull of the Nuts and Bolts for me.

Just a little to syrupy and confectioned for my taste, but these HS wines are always crowd-pleasers when I pop a bottle for guests.

Really in a good spot. I should drink more of Russell's wines with a bit of age.

Dark opaque color. Drank berry, prune and alcohol aromas. Rich black raspberry, liquor, and tar flavors with lengthy finish.
