  I wouldn’t be doing this wine, or the winemakers, Brooke and her son Chase, any favors if I didn’t leave a note. Fabulous wine.
  
  Rarely do I leave Carhartt wines notes, despite this being one of my longest standing club memberships. On one hand , I feel they deserve the notoriety... but on the other hand, I don’t want their prices to go up!$48 retail on the estate Syrah.
  
  I’ve been enjoying Carhartt wines since 2005. Their estate grows Grenache , Syrah and merlot in the Santa Ynez valley just below the town of Los Olivos ( where their wine tasting room is which is killer). Few other estate blends, plus they make some Pinots and other varietals from fruit sourced in the area.
  
  Anyway, onto the wine. The Syrah is one of their estate jewels. This 2015 I opened yesterday was throwing some serious funk. Had a glass and put the cork back in wondering how good this wine is. Initially More than usual funk with Carhartt (the Grenache is my perennial favorite) , but here on day 2 of this estate Syrah, this wine is taking on another level.
  
  I’m getting some sweet bacon on the nose. Classic meaty and peppery savory nose , dark fruits, but that sweet bacon funk is just bringing this wine to another, higher level.
