  • Fascinating Asian Spice Scent.
It is a beautiful wine that is dense and concentrated.

  • Rich, delicious, deeply dark strawberry fruit with mushroom flavors, excellent structure, long finish, wine needs age to soften

  • Consistently my favorite RM Pinot, this was the last of my 2016s…no restraint! No surprise, it showed the most layers but also the most in reserve for evolving down the road. For those who still have, I’d hold another 2-3yrs, or decant 2+hrs.

This was opened later in the evening alongside other wines, but at least was given a decant for about an hour before it was mostly consumed. Out of the 2016 single vineyard Pinots I’ve consumed, the easy answer is it’s mostly similar to the Summa, but just because that’s the easy answer doesn’t mean it’s the wrong one. The similarities with the black tea, pomegranate, mint, and muddled underripe raspberries are obvious but where it diverges from the Summa is with the blood orange…the citrus layers here are absolutely fantastic. A great combo of fruit and savory notes (doesn’t seem to have much whole cluster), with nervy acidity and a lengthy finish. This is just beginning to unfurl.

  • This wine is drinking pretty darn well right now. I think we found this one at the top of the curve. The nose and palate is primarily brambleberry and grape stem, cherry cola and eucalyptus. White flowers and a touch of pomegranate. This one is integrated, well balanced, as full bodied as Pinot gets, and just really enjoyable overall. Rounded mouthfeel from start ton finish. This wine has really never had a lighter red fruit profile, and I really don't get much of the orange peel with this Vineyard versus some of the other releases from RM. Much more herbal, brandly, dare I call it Old World Pinot with a new world spicy twist. When I bring these bottles home, they really don't last long in our chiller. I have a few 2016 left. I need to definitely consider bulking up the 2021's given that the 2020 was extremely sparse and I don't think any was produced from this vineyard. Drink now as a pop and pour, or hold for another couple of years.
