An evening with George (Bistro Cocotte, Haberfield): More red currant/berry, sweet spice, a little almost rhubarb note, tiny ashy quality, aa little jubey note, cream, oak intrudes with time. Juicy, fleshy, red over black fruit, beautifully handled oak though intrusive from a flavour perspective, textured burr, long, polished but arguably, aa little anonymous.

Serious Burgundy night: My first time trying Bernstein, guessed ‘16 or ‘18 Gevrey. Attractive dark cherry fruit with some cola notes on the nose. Clearly modern but not as overdone and obnoxious as I expected from the producer. Developed more sweet and candied fruit on the palate with time in the glass that reminded me of a new-world Pinot. Was good for me but apparently his villages have more obtrusive oak, guess the GCs can absorb the oak better.

Olivier Bernstein Cellar Visit and Barrel Tasting (Beaune): Barrel tasting. From two plots, one each in Charmes and Mazoyeres, always co-fermented. Black and meaty, slightly brooding. New oak nicely absorbed. Long, powerful and expanding finish, which seems to linger. Very good + potential, 92-93 points.

Olivier Bernstein Dinner with Olivier Bernstein (Sepia - Chicago IL): Red and black cherry with intriguing perfumed character. Elegant from the start through the middle, then slightly bigger towards the long finish. Better now vs when tasted from barrel.
