Fantastic wine - White pepper dominated the finish at the start, but mellowed out and gave way to luscious cherry and dark berries. Huge nose and medium-long finish. Well balanced, good evolution, not a fruit bomb at all. Was a great contrast to the earthiness of 2002 Cayuse En Chamberlin.

Poured from magnum. Had the luxury of trying this wine before recorking it and packing into the car for dinner. Upon opening, a nose of face powder, hint of stem (?), and a ripe jammy note. Lovely palate of licorice/anise, cherry jam, blackberry and hint of game. There is a lively note in the wine, which seems to lift the total effect. I suspect this is the verve and lift of the Grenache, which is 25% of the blend. It adds the red edge, which I don't often prefer, but given the mix of syrah here, it works for me. Has some chocolate and a tarry edge on the finish. Over dinner, similar to pre-dinner notes but towards the end of the meal, I retried the wine again and final perception was quite strong as to "boysenberry". Overall, I thought this wine drank pretty well.

Color is deep red. Nose is dark fruit and sweetness, at least initally. The first taste was somewhat fruity. The wine continued to open nicely with notes of black fruit, spice and some mild smoke

From magnum. Nice fruit and balance, with long finish.
