  • A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsaut. Tasted blind in VV.

Youthful, moderately translucent ruby red color with a slightly blue hue. Very youthful and primary nose with fruit-driven aromas of raspberries, strawberries, some sappy herbal notes and a hint of blackberry marmalade. The wine feels quite simple and surprisingly light-bodied on the palate for a CdP with moderate alcohol heat and rather primary flavors of raspberries, strawberries, some fresh plums and a hint of fresh, sappy fruit. The wine is moderately high in acidity with very gentle and soft tannins that contribute little to the texture and almost nothing to the structure. The finish is soft, warm and rather primary with fruity flavors of strawberries, ripe blackberries, brambly raspberries and a hint of sweet plummy fruit.

A simple, youthful and unchallenging wine that feels more like a simple Côtes du Rhône from a cooler vintage than anything remotely related to Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Very simple, primary and remarkably unconcentrated for the style. I tend to enjoy lighter and fresher style of CdP over the gloopy, jammy style that seems to be so popular there nowadays, but this is just 10€ everyday plonk. A rip-off at 29,90€. Avoid.

  • Winebar [Various Reds & 4 Whites] for 11/24/17 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): "(67% Grenache, 22% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre, & 6% from the other 10 grapes of CdP). The 35 year old vines are planted on soils with rolled pebbles, stony terraces with sand and gravel sub-soils, and clay soils formed from the limestone mother rock. Destemmed and fermented for 2-3 weeks in concrete vats with twice daily pump overs. Aged 18 months in vats and foudres (15%)." [From: http://www.gordonswine.com/ ]

N: RIPE, smoke, berries (some jam) with flowers

P: MF body; ALMOST swtish frt NICELY balanced by acidity with very, VERY fine tannins which slowly, pretty much resolve by the LONG, slightly spicy, VERY slightly tangy/swt finish with JUST a hint of bitterness from very, VERY fine tannins. Might improve for 6 mos or so, then drink nicely through '20. NICE QPR @ this vendor's $25.95, which is at least $3 < than anyone else currently listed on wine-searcher.
