Popped and poured at dinner. My first of 6 bottles. This was more advanced than I expected.
A subtle, almost invisible mousse that present enough to give it a lovely texture and verve. Dominated by brioche, vanilla, and a bit of red apple… but quite a bit short on the finish and lacking significant depth, much less than any other Beguines I’ve had.
Still entirely enjoyable and really great with food, just not less than I expect from this vineyard and this wine. Hoping it’s an off bottle, but I will be opening another soon regardless.

Tokyo, Aoyama - Opens very tight and inexpressive with little on the nose and an indistinct gob of fruit. I find low dosage Grower Champagnes need serving at higher temperature and benefit from some slow oxygenation. The palate is rather spherical and hints at a complete still wine beneath the bubbles. Yellow fruit basket shows initially before oxidative notes become more prominent. Perfect pairing with Japanese peaches.

The drinkability on Beguines is very linear to me at the moment, with 14 > 15 > 16 > 17 > 18. Gonna taste the 13 and 10 soon, but I expect it to be pretty in line with expectations.
I felt this one was more similar to a recent 16. It's rich and creamy with plenty of chalky and berry notes. Nice concentration and just enough acid. The 14 is a pretty decent step above this (for my palate). Still, it's enjoyable.

First time with this vintage. Shows similar orchard fruit to younger bottles but with a nice toastiness to it. The brioche is subtle hiding under the fruit but manages to lift the sum of the parts completely. Still some acid on the finish keeping it crisp. Far from full maturity, but going to be tough to keep my hands off more.

Restaurant bottle. Initially seems quite simple, but gains complexity and weight after a few hours. Good but I think this needs more time.
