I found this champagne quite confusing to describe. Lite and elegant but the flavors are pretty big and don’t match what I expect from the nose or color. As with other CB champagne’s there is less mousse and less persistent mousse—all the bubbles fade to a nearly still wine in a short time. Nose is slightly nutty with a hint of brioche that makes you think this will be what you would expect on the palate. But more intense flavors on the palate and very fruity. Particularly cherries and red fruits. Like a big fruit salad with a bunch of saline and acid It reminds me of those fruit salads with a savory dressing, or green salads that have a fruity dressing. Contrasting flavors of fruit and acid. I think I like it but so far I have preferred younger versions of this producer.
Incredible stonefruit and some more pineapple lychee fruit going on too, but it's a Bouchard so the acidity and minerality keep it from being too opulent. Just astonishingly good.

Sunday hangout (and goodbyes) (Chicago, IL): Disgorged April 2017, V. 10. This was surprisingly sweet for a 2010, despite the lack of dosage. There's a bit of a confected, white grape thing here that's not altogether bad, but feels a little out of place on a champagne with this sort of acidity. Not particularly weighty or heavy, but with adequate breadth on the palate. For the price that these command nowadays, I find them poor value.

Another tremendous bottle of the Cote de Bechalin. There is such a beautiful palate feel, nervy energy and freshness to the fruit. This had just a bit of nuttiness up front, but mostly the foamy red apple, peach and tart cherry juice drive this wine.
