  • Aerated and decanted 2 hours. Poured a glass and sat by the fire.

Nose of game and blood. Wealth of beautiful black fruits and plums. A surprising zing of menthol every third long, slow inhale.

Palate of spicy herbs and cured meat. The grenache holds more sway here with some red fruit breaking through the black. It’s got so much going on—game here, tar there, stewed puréed fruits and blood splattered about. It’s big and deep; it’s hedonism with an almost impossible balancing act with. . . everything. Everything!

This wine is NOT for the fastidious or decorous who prune the shrubbery into animal shapes, make love with the lights off, and/or are not haunted by Ellen Burstyn’s loss at the 73rd Academy Awards. It’s for those who enter the opium den, find it all blasé, then head to the secret back room where a mysterious man keeps the magic puzzle boxes that can bring forth either angels or demons, depending upon your proclivities, of course. I don’t know about you, but, for me, bring it on, denizens of the opium den!

  • Kleur: Fluwelig lichtrood. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 15 + Smaak / Afdronk: 20 + Algemeen / potentieel: 10 = 100/100

Color: Velvety light red. Aroma / bouquet: Pleasant, perfumed and super-seductive aroma. A start of sweet strawberry and raspberry fruit, followed by soft sweet condiments. A hint of dried plums, soft gingerbread and gingerbread. Taste / Aftertaste: Pleasant, refined acidity. Beautifully matured, velvety tannins, both soft and powerful. An aristocratic combination of strength and refinement. Long aftertaste. This is liquid perfection. General / potential: One of the standard questions among wine connoisseurs: "Do you prefer Bordeaux or Burgundy"? I lean towards white Bourogne and red Bordeaux, but both white and red Ch9dP, especially from Clos du Pape and Deus-Ex-Machina. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 15 + Taste / Aftertaste: 20 + General / potential: 10 = 100/100

  • This has to be one of the best wines I have enjoyed. Worthy of the 100 points from Dunnuck. It explodes in the mouth. Black cherry, cured meats, and stone fruit. Beautiful balance. Smooth. Long finish. At a very good spot right now.

  • This is one of only few 100-pt wines from 2016 vintage of CDP that I don't in my cellar. Glad to find it at a restaurant in CDP itself. After first sip, I see smiles :)) on my fellow winemakers' happy faces. This wine is currently drinking perfectly and is peaking with more stamina to cruise for a few more years. This beauty can be enjoyed by itself without food. It's one of the best CDPs i have had from many vintages; and is definitely a step up from its 2017 vintage. One word to sum up: WOW!

This beauty (a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Mouverdre) is really an elegant and harmoniously balanced wine with the grenache driving the aromatics and mouvedre driving the flavor profile brilliantly!

Bouquet: Very long uplighting perfume of sweet, ripe rich darker (blue) fruit with subtle garrigue notes driven by Grenache component. The aromatics lingers for long long time! Darn memorable.

Palate: Weightless, pure yet concentrated ripe dark blue fruit intermixed with subtle cocoa and herbs (driven by Mourvedre) flavor.

Texture: Seamless super-fine tannins with acidity masked under juicy rich dark fruit flavor. This wine is velvet, unctuous and full body resulting in a very long and supple finish. I wish there is more in the glass and bottle!

Keywords: Elegant, Balance, Uplighting rich aromatics, Unctuous texture
    Scoring range: 98-100; 99+
