Astonishing qpr, as with all Balbo wines. Seamless blend of syrah and bonarda with obvious characteristics of both. Bonarda seems to dominate with that sour cherry aspect. Little in the way of tannin, very fruit forward. Some herb and tobacco and tar but less then you would expect with syrah. This is steaks on the grill wine, big time. Again, can't go wrong with the fantastic price. Not well knit, with a hot alcoholic finish even though it's "only" 13.5%. An overweight chick in a belly shirt. Won't get fooled again. This would probably go well with ribs or any smoked meat or grilled meat with a BBQ sauce. A very so-so wine- should be 7.99 a bottle and not 12.99. Wouldn't buy again. The smoke overpowered the fruit- barely tasted. Cherries and vanilla on the nose. Medium weight, with some strawberry and spice added to the palate. Moderate length finish. Pleasant and fruity, but not a lot of complexity. (1200 views) | | | Tasted by stubbie999 on 12/1/2007: A little disappointed by this wine this time. Showed no complexity, even after a bit of time open. Very sweet, syrah fruit up front, but no structure or deeper earthy component that it has showed in previous vintages. Oh well - still a fine table wine, but not as good QPR as previously. Edit:Possibly getting a cold, so take with a grain of salt... (1224 views) | | | Tasted by Glassman on 11/23/2007 & rated 88 points: A must have in your cellar- Fruity an great for your friends that don't care for red wine (until they try Crios) (1226 views) | | | Tasted by e_sani on 11/17/2007 & rated 85 points: (959 views) | | | Tasted by Anonymous on 9/28/2007: This is a rich wine, dark red and strong red berry nose. Spice notes come after an initial fruit of plum and berry. I enjoyed the 2003 i had very much and the 2005 needs a bit more time in the air for it to come around to is best showing. Intense aroma of black raspberries. This medium-bodied, very lively wine has loads of ripe red plum and black raspberry flavors with a slightly spicy character and a long, juicy finish. Certainly enjoyable in its youth, but it will age beautifully. (1393 views) | | | Tasted by Erik of Sweden on 9/6/2007 & rated 83 points: This is allright but not as excellent as my previous note would have it. Good table wine, drink now style and warm lush fruit and spice. (1409 views) | | | Tasted by Wolfgang on 8/30/2007 & rated 90 points: Great vanilla, cherry and oak nose which followed into a medium bodied taste. I will always keep a bottle of this in the cellar! DOMINIO DEL PLATA
To ensure a regular supply of top-quality grapes, the winery relies on grapes from various vineyard sources and geographic locations in addition to those at the estate. On arrival at the winery, the grape clusters are placed on an inspection conveyor to be carefully checked and sorted before stemming and crushing.
The sizes of the tanks, their shapes, characteristic necks, doors and opening systems allow the easy and precise management of the fermenting juices and the entire fermentation process. Benmarco is top wine and crios the lowest. but i don’t know the difference. All of them are excellent.

Wines of Argentina
Argentina has been making wine since the 1500s, tracing its wine heritage back to Spain, France and, perhaps surprisingly, Italy. Italian immigration is second only to Spanish in Argentine culture, and the flavors of Italy show up strongly in the nation’s wine, food and cultural tradition. Historically, Argentina has kept much of its wine consumption at home, drinking most of the wine it makes. But we are now seeing more very serious Argentine wines north of the border, and Malbec is leading the movement. The wine-making region in Argentina ranges between the 22° and 42° South latitude. It spreads at the foothills of the Andean mountain range along over 2,400 km; from the province of Salta to the province of Río Negro, with a variety of climates and soils that makes each region a unique land. In general terms, the areas dedicated to vine cultivation are dry and arid with a low level of rain and humidity, determining factor as regards grape health. Abundant sunny days and thermal amplitude favor a good maturity and concentration of aroma and color in the grain. Soils are deep, permeable and poor in organic matter, decisive qualities at the time of obtaining good wine. Due to the low rain regime, irrigation is necessary. Water comes from the Andean range thaw, descending in the shape of rivers to become channels or ditches. Undoubtedly, the combination of these factors turns Argentina into a veritable oasis for the highest quality wine-making. Nevertheless, there is still a long way to go. Wine-making in Argentina, at the level that it achieves today, has a young history that goes back to a little more than 10 years ago. Technological progress, investment and some farsighted businessmen enabled a determining transformation. The province of Mendoza is the most traditional area in the viticultural industry, and is diverse enough to be divided into zones, according to their significantly different weather, height and soil characteristics. These include the Northern Zone, which is suitable for fruity whites and young reds, at a height from 600 to 700m; the Eastern Zone, with a height ranging from 600 to 700m, and the most productive zone in the province; the Uco Valley, a zone of colder weather and higher altitudes (between 800 and 1,400m over sea level); San Rafael, with heights ranging from 450 to 800m; and the High Zone of the Mendoza River, with heights ranging from 800 to 1,100m over sea level and various microclimates, this is the zone where almost all noble varieties have easily become adapted. It is a region that is remarkably well-suited to vine culture, protected from the Pacific’s cooling influence by the Andes and enjoying a long summer of cool nights and warm days, with a dry summer climate but plenty of water available from the region’s rivers. Malbec in particular is outstanding from this area, and it has clearly emerged as the star, the darling of both consumers and critics.
