Olive tapenade, smoke, charred wood, blueberry, full taste to finish palate S depth and improvement for the future in its cards. Drank on a damp cooler day. Feels like your in the Levet cellar.

First bottle from a case bought chez Agnes Levet. A really dirty nose, blueberry notes under the dirt, menthol as well. Marks of farmyard, blue and black fruits on the palate, medium bodied, good acidity. There is also flowers and black olives. Just a bit of bite in the tannins. 3 years too young at least, but this is interesting now and will be much more interesting with additional bottle age.

Last bottle of this cuvee for this vintage. Colour remains inky black. Extraordinary nose of raw meat, blood and rose petal. Palate is almost Turkish delight on entry before a saline meatiness and then long finish. As my drinking partner commented: “ I feel like I am drinking my own blood”.

Medium bodied, traditional style unique to vintner. My experience with Levet is their two flagships from '09 onwards, but this is my first Amethyste (or simply "Cote Rotie" in EU).
Juicy red fruit, underbrush, conifer needles, dried violets, olive tapenade, and hints of smoked charcuterie. Delicious and yet infantile and backwards. The finish is totally disjointed, like every too-young Levet that I try to coax open years early. Patience always rewarded.
This wine is far more competitive with the higher end offerings than I expected, and not one to drink "while you wait" -- it needs 10-15 years of cellaring itself. Appropriately priced. 2026 onward. 90-91 today, will end up 92+. Will not eclipse the depth or power Journaries or Chavaroche.
Edit: day 2 the finish solidified: now substantial length, chalky tannins, acidic lift, smooth dark chocolate notes for the first time.

Cote Rotie Double Blind (Chicago): Distinctly sauvage nose with attractive meaty funk with spice and florals. The palate is brooding with rich, structured fruit. Again very animale and sauvage meaty, funk-filled fruit. Served blind and guessed Levet given the house style. Lots of upside starting in ~10 years.
