Near perfect Syrah for mine. So engaging and ethereal. Stony and cool, with briary fruits. Has some graphite and menthol and a hint of black olive. Structural elements are buried, and tannins simply occupy a space. Fantastic energy and freshness and each sip invites another.

Paired with Persian lamb shank and lentils. This was quite closed and seemed in a dumb phase, unlike the ‘17 I had a year ago. Some dark fruit and green stem. And that was about it. My wife rated it 94 but I am withholding the score, whereas the ‘17 was ethereal and singing. Shame.

Took a few hours to open after decanting. Intense fruit and floral notes and earth at first. It's spread out into olive, brighter fruit, a little salinity, meatiness but not overly funky. Cooked blackberry and blueberry. The tiniest bit of epazote. Intense tannins and bright fruit, so very young still but fantastic already.

Enjoyed over 4-5 hours. I was shocked at how open and giving this was from the start. Bright, pure and balanced. Berries, olive and floral notes. Despite being open for business, there is certainly underlying structure and this will age beautifully.

Relatively tight after an hour decant. Pure fruited. 95/96 potential. Try again in 5 years?
