  • Deep and dark ruby color. Quite expressive nose with aromas of ripe blackberries and crunchy blackcurrants, a surprisingly pronounced streak of bell pepper, some bittersweet dark chocolate, a little bit of savory oak spice and a hint of eucalyptus. The wine is medium-bodied, soft and quite harmonious on the palate with flavors of sweet, cocoa-driven oak spice, some blackcurrant, a little bit of bell pepper, a hint of vanilla and a touch of brambly blackberries. Overall the wine is a bit lackin in the structure department with its medium acidity and medium tannins, but at least the wine doesn't come across as flabby. The finish is ripe and sweet with flavors of ripe and sweet blackcurrant-driven fruit, woody bitterness, some exotic spices, a little bit of bell pepper, a hint of bittersweet dark chocolate and a touch of brambly blackberries.

A surprisingly nice, characterful and harmonious Chilean red for a Tarapacá - since I normally loathe anything made by them. They really don't seem to understand anything about acidity, tannic structure or reasonable use of oak, because their wines are always lacking in these. However, this wine manages to be something different and actually shows some sense of structure (not much), some reasonable oak use (well, to some extent) and is actually interesting flavor-wise! Still, this is not a terribly interesting wine as a whole, and not really a wine made in my style, but at least it is a step into the right direction.
