  • Seemed a little young and tight still. Will put my next bottle away for a few.

  • Small 2016 Alpha Omega horizontal (Sunshine Valley, Stagecoach, Thomas) generously opened by Andreas for dinner. Am surprised to see the three wines rated almost exactly the same on CT as I had Stagecoach and Thomas clearly above Sunshine Vallet.
Stagecoach: A tighter and more sinewy Cab than the other two, and the only one that seemed to need more time. Deep dark fruit, medium (+) tannins, good length 94.
Thomas: Right now in the best drinking of the three. Richer and more concentrated fruit than Stagecoach, very polished, on a finish a touch of chocolate hinting at the warmer location. 94
Sunshine: Rich and round but lacking a bit in structure in my eyes. Unlike the other two this tastes more like a Cab/Merlot blend. Good wine but not particularly interesting. 91

  • Complex and deeply involved. Despite the two consistencies in Alpha Omega's reds--lots of delicious oak that hogs the stage and excellent tannin management--the vineyard's individuality shines through.

  • Indicative of the terroir, the Stagecoach shows a dark baritone core of chocolatey and earthy black fruit. A touch heavy mid-palate at first with the chocolate and spice pushing out before the fruit at times, but with enough acid and frame to provide lift as the flavors move across the palate. A bit less exacting focus when compared to the Crane and Era, but the Stagecoach delivers well on the flavor front for sure.

Give it another year or so to come together a little more. Likely one of the more immediate drinkers in the AO lineup, presumably needing less time in bottle to reach its apex than the Crane or Era. 93+ points this go-around.
