Lively floral aromas leap from the glass with a hint of eucalyptus in the background. Immensely fragrant. Dark brick red with translucent edges. There are flavors of blackberry, cassis, dark chocolate. Tannins are smooth, soft and rounded providing great structure and depth to this wine. There's good acidity which melds nicely with the tannins. Simply outstanding. Simply delicious.

Dark purple fruit - blackberry, currants/cassis, dark cherry, and a little plum. Smooth mid-palate with a nice purity and solid depth/concentration. Nice rich/vibrant flavors of dark berries, some spice/licorice, and a mineral/graphite component. Fairly long finish. Decanted for one hour and drank over a couple more. Improved with time but drinking quite well after the decant despite its youth. Drank next to the 2012 vintage and the 2016 vintage was considerably better - bigger/fuller fruit, more character/expressive, longer/deeper finish, etc.. A nice vintage of this wine and no surprise of the 97 to 99 rating from WA. 96+ for me at this stage. 100% cab.
Luscious dark fruit, some earthy spice in the background. No bitterness anywhere in a long tongue. Only improved over the course of a couple of hours. Truly exceptional wine.

3-Day Napa Cab Taste-Off: Vice Versa, B Cellars, Memento Mori, Alpha Omega, Purlieu, Janzen, Realm, Myriad, MACDONALD, Maybach, and more...; 2/7/2018-2/9/2018 (Napa): Barrel Sample from a Taransaud T5 barrique. An absolute bad a** example of the BTK site. Tons of power and concentration, but with a textural superiority that seldom graces such bombastic fruit flavors. Dark black and deep red core fruit flavors. Spice, fresh vanilla bean, scorched earth, and fresh turned soil add to the complexity of this wine. It feels like it is coming at you like a sledgehammer on the initial attack, but then it cascades exquisitely over the palate with mouth-coating intensity. Rounding out superbly on the back end of the jaw, the power comes back to pulsate its way through the finish.
It will be interesting to see what becomes of the final product once this wine is in bottle. 95-97+ points.
