Community Tasting Notes (3) Avg Score: 88 points

  • Medium red purple color; nose of minerals, cherries, flowers and graphite; medium body; restrained tannins in nice balance with the red berry fruit flavors; tannins come forward and dominate the finish; this wine has several years of life left; retasted after open on counter for 48 hours; showed no signs of oxidation; the tannins that dominated the finish became very soft allowing the fruit to shine; increased my rating to a 90 from an 89; impressive!

  • should not expect brunello quality from a rosso di montalcino. don't know what the hurry was about to drink up this wine. it seems to be a fine example of its type that has held up well. must confess that it fades in and out in the glass but at the high points it is perfectly fine. nothing spectacular but enjoyable. good fruit, pure grape, no analogies to other species. color is still bright.

A salty nose with mushrooms and leaves.
A very foody wine, with a nice bitter finish.
