The Roots Fund Charity Wine Dinner (Atelier - Chicago IL): This wine showed magically as always. So much here- red cherry & berry, pomegranate, slowly cooked porcini, dried rose petals, Boeuf Bourguignon, and so much more. So Vosne profiled with clear Grand Cru concentration. My WOTN. Merci, Mark!

The Roots Fund - Chicago Fundraising Dinner (Atelier - Chicago, IL): Wow. What a stunning and gorgeous bottle - and perhaps as good as the 100 point bottle I tasted a 5 years ago, but the Paulee format of our dinner didn't let me quite ponder this wine as much as I would have liked. Everything you'd imagine in the very best of Vosne with the time to evolve while not losing the sexiness of fruit.
Nearly as good as a perfect bottle five years ago. This is the epitome of mature Grand Cru vosne with an intense, layered, powerful nose that screams Vosne spice, black tea, and black cherry. The palate is svelte with concentrated mature fruit. Wow.

Tuesday (Chicago, IL): Wonderful old Burgundy. Outstanding freshness and complexity; layers of autumnal leaves, earth, mushrooms, and fruit. Would probably have guessed something a few decades younger if served blind, really. Delicate and lifted, but with plenty of underlying weight all the same. Always a treat to come across a good bottle of old Burgundy.

Floral, tea and autumnal aromatics. Fully resolved palate, retains sweetness.
