  • Wow!
Dark shimmering fruits that come alive with a bit of air time. Elegantly crafted, with balancing acidity, hints of smoke and and tobacco, with black pepper. Juicy tannins that enhance the pairing with higher fat foods, without drying notes or overwhelming. Drink the 2013 now, but also suitable for another 5-10 years aging.

Great QPR versus other Southern Rhône’s, but also an admittedly different style than a CdP.

  • Decanted this and then started to drink about 90 minutes later with pasta with a lamb and tomato sauce.

The nose on opening was bursting with fruit; this has moderated a little 90 minutes later - but still plenty of dark rich fruit.

On the palate it's very smooth - dark red berries, a hint of smokiness and vegetation, moderate tannins which coat the mouth nicely. There is just a little acidity to bring it all into balance, and this is not a heavy wine despite the 14% alcohol.

The finish is moderately long, fresh. With more air (say 2.5-3 hours) the finish becomes somewhat more dry and tannin-y.

Overall this is a very nice and approachable wine which would pair with a lot of foods.

As with the earlier 2009 vintage I only seem to come across this when it is being bin-ended; but at the ~US$48 I paid this is very decent QPR. It competes very well with Rhones at a similar price point. I guess it has quite a few good years ahead of it.

  • This is, for me, a stellar wine. Mainly old vine Grenache with a chunk of Syrah and a splash of Mourvèdre. This is no CNdP replica though. Amazing smokiness, great velvety tannins, ripe fruit and lovely spicy notes. Refined and so well made. For the price - £25 - this is a superb buy. V fine.

  • Bought a dozen after tasting this a few weeks ago. I wondered if it would be as good as I remembered. I wasn’t disappointed. This is superb. It tastes and smells way more mature than it is. Refined and so well balanced this is so precise. The tannins are starting to soften, but the wonderful jammy fruit and light spice are to the fore. A triumph.

  • A very impressive wine. Tasted with Ken Forrester - a genuinely top bloke. For a youngish wine this feels pretty mature. A stunning nose of spice, pepper and ripe fruit. Tannins are pretty smooth ans integrated. Not too jammy on the nose. More elegant than most southern Rhônes at twice the price. Ken thinks this has another 10 years to reach its peak. If that’s true this will be sensational. Chapeau Ken.
