  • Labeled "Tocai Friulano", the old way. 12,5% alcohol.

Concentrated yet relatively pale lemon yellow color. Somewhat evolved yet still surprisingly youthful nose with aromas of savory exotic spices, papaya, some cantaloupe, light notes of herbal spice, a little bit of wizened yellow stone fruits and a mineral hint of crushed rocks. Very attractive impression here. The wine is - surprisingly for a Friulano - light-to-medium-bodied, firm and fresh on the palate with ripe, layered and subtly sweet-toned flavors of juicy golden apples and cantaloupe, stony minerality, some herbal spice, a little bit of exotic spice, light evolved notes of dried peaches, a hint of beeswax and a touch of mellow salinity. The firm, high acidity lends good sense of structure to the wine and intensity to the flavors. The finish is long, firm and lively with bright flavors of ripe red apples, some cantaloupe, light mineral notes of wet rocks and salinity, a little bit of wizened peach, developed hints of beeswax and nuttiness and a touch of exotic spice.

A wonderfully fresh, youthful and vibrant Friulano for one that is clocking at +20 years. Also remarkably lively, delicate and light-bodied for the variety. Although this is not an extraordinary white wine, this is easily among the best white Friulanos I've tasted, if not the best. The wine shows seductive sense of balance, harmony and depth of flavor. Even though the ain't a youngster no more, it is still so fresh and youthful that I can imagine it could actually continue to improve from here. Very impressive. Highly recommended.

  • April Fool's Tasting at Momo's: April Fools Tasting - Also strange on the nose - very dry smelling - dried herbs and makeup. Rich on the palate, a bit sweet. Okay, but I'll pass.
