Clean and impeccably made, as all their premium wines are. Bottle tonight was just in a funny place. Acid was really zingy and pure, but just a little jarring, seeming to overpower the fruit which has mellowed out and starting to form some aged characters.
In all a really lovely wine that probably should be left alone for a year or two to integrate a bit better, but all the pieces are there and we know with the pedigree that it’s an issue of timing not one of vintage, winemaking, fruit or vision.

Flavour is heavy, dense, and somewhat closed: intense cassis and raspberry, with hints of leather, black pepper, roast garlic, and violet. Medium-bodied, with firm tannin and strong acidity. Lots of potential, but needs a lot of time to open up.
{screwcap, 14.5%} Still a deep crimson garnet colour. Assertive, intense but integral nose of dark chocolate, blackberries, malty rich oak, French I guess. Although the fruit is plenty ripe, and the wine medium/full in weight, it never oversteps the boundaries. Still very young, without much development, it’s never harsh or over-worked. The cabernet component isn’t large but it’s very influential. Super fine dusty medium weight tannins and medium acidity. Big without being clumsy. Feels like it has years in front of it; justified from this top vintage. Great balance along the tongue, medium/full in weight, with a medium/long finish. Drinkable now or keep for another decade.

a little reversion back to the ‘old’ style. Blackberry, some herbal bits, red spice x spike of peppermint, vanilla and choc. Some charry oak. Lovely flow and balance.

Hunter Whistlestop 2020 #3 (Hunter Valley): Savoury, gamey, earthy, a little farty and funky, under this it's showing blackcurrant and plums. Sweet spice; actually with more this shows more and more fruit, oak and savoury notes. Lots going on on the, all good. Medium plus intensity acidity, savoury, concentrated, fleshy, drying tannins are chalky and long, persistent, black hued fruit trots along by the tannins like a faithful hound, the oak is also present as a walking stick, offering support, to stretch the analogy. Young. Very good.
