A rock solid (pun intended), technically 'excellent' Barolo. It does, however, suffer a little because of the tough vintage, of which the producer had little control. While I would happily drink it all day if offered, it is not something I would pay for. Herein lies a problem with wines of vaulted reputation, the price is not worth admission in difficult years.

floral-leather strawberry nose - lovely actually. On the palate first the red fruit but then not that well integrated tannin-acidity structure: rather bitter tannins and a sour finish... nit the best vintage i fear - hopefully the crus will be better.

Ruby red. Clean, fresh and traditional Nebbiolo aromas. Fruity, with good structure and acidity. I expected a more demanding young wine from this traditional producer, but this was very agreable with no hard edges. Maybe the relatively weak vintage plays a role here. A good Barolo, anyway.

Mid red. Gentle but intense nose. Red berries, old forest, vanillin spice. Nice purity of expression. The palate carries the same but finishes just a touch thin. Tannins are quite stiff at first but the wine opens up over a day or two- I would give a good decant if drinking in one sitting. Maybe needs a few more years to show its best? If I had more I’d be tempted to leave it another two years to try again.
