  • [TASTED AT A WINEBAR @ GRAPES, MUNICH, GERMANY]

    ENGLISH:
Nose: Almost perfumed, dark and juicy, oak grated into damp forest soil, plus violets, juicy sour cherry and plum, a hint of smoky peat, turmeric and some ginger, later fine red bell pepper, quite spicy notes for a Pinot, lots of development in the glass, clove
Taste: Fleshy, fine plum, violets, turmeric and some woody notes, plus this subtle roasted note rather earthy than woody or nutty, black cherry, some fresh, pure ink, wonderfully round, full-bodied, spreads everywhere and yet remains velvety, highly polished tannins for the actual partly quite spicy notes, clove, nutmeg
Comment: Extremely complex wine, quite spicy and full-bodied for a Pinot, which suits me very well. A dream from Australia.

  • Appearance - beautiful deep garnet with bright red hues. Lots of legs and medium bodied. Fairly translucent
Nose - very aromatic notes of red fruits - strawberries, some raspberries, floral, pot pourri, bit of forest floor
Palate - this wine shows its full potential when decanted for at least an hr. Once aerated, the flavours really open up. Initial sip shows intense rich red fruits. Lots of strawberries, raspberries, dash of sour cherries giving a tart flavours. Very well balanced with some forest floor and tannins are very velvety. Finishes with peacock tail and the higher acidity helps bring long lasting from finish. Really a very classy and elegant Pinot typical Farr extravaganza. Highly enjoyable

  • There is not only herbal intensity; it’s luscious like fresh coriander. Precise, with a charming personality! 95p for the first small glass on its own, 94p for the second small glass with food (pork; potato wedges; tamari & cream sauce; fresh shredded beetroot, arugula, baby spinach and red chard; szechuan pepper). Some gorgeous sips on day 2, with some darker fruit emerging, definitely tip the score upwards.

On the topic of quantity, an advantage of a wine like this is that you don’t want to blunt yourself to the finely chiselled details, so you’re motivated not to drink too much.

With all the suffering going on in the world, I feel guilty drinking stuff like this. But it was cheaper than tenderloin.

  • Strawberries, raspberries and a touch of cream. Very berry.

Nice balance and massively overrated here.

  • I was expecting this to have moved a little more than what it did in the last couple of year, however it still seems to have more than enough life in it. The nose shows aromas of rhubarb, raspberries, strawberries, violets and a little steaminess. The palate is medium-bodied, rich and creamy with layers of juicy red fruit, vanilla bean and rhubarb stalk, focused mid-palate structure and with sufficient acidity allows the palate from feeling too heavy, the finish lingers with a slight savory texture. Probably the best Pinot from Australia, unless you talk to Wine Spectator in which case Penfolds makes a better one.
