  • Dave's b'day lunch (McLeay Street Bistro, Potts Point): Stalky ashy notes sit with red berried fruit, sweet spice, slight volatility and earthy/muddy notes. Medium plus intensity acidity, slightly hard/green tannins, the fruit is a little muted but showing wild black and red berries, tangy, savoury. Hmm.

  • First Wednesday Wine Club (Napoli in Bocca, Haberfield): Served blind.
Slight volatility, black hued fruit, a little cherry, stalky notes. Medium plus intensity acidity, chalky texture is an underpin, fruit is a bit muted, quite savoury, slight alcohol warmth.
Guessed whole bunchy Australian Pinot, probably Victorian yarra or geelong by process of elimination (it ain't beechworth or mornington) and about 4-6 years old.

  • Appearance: medium garnet.
Nose: medium intensity; aromas of cranberry, sour strawberry, pomegranate, redcurrant, a little rustic, cloves, chocolate, pickled cabbage (in a good way), vanilla, toast, minty. It's developing.
Palate: dry, high acidity, medium tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, medium plus flavour intensity, hawthorn fruit, black tea, cranberry and chocolate flavours come through. The finish is medium plus.
Overall, it's a very good wine. Can drink now, has potential for further ageing.
Complex red fruit and earthy notes on the nose. Smells quite different from its youth, which can be very stalky and leafy. This bottle still present those aromas but much integrated. The tannins structure has been managed well, fine and silky. The balance is great between high acidity and fruit intensity. The moderate alcohol is almost undetectable. Very enjoyable to drink now, although it is likely to further improve in the next 2-3 years.

  • Pristine cork. Opened and drank over 4 hours. Garnet colour. Expressive nose, dark red fruit, some mushroom and soy. Intense on the palate, pretty big, red fruit, some sourness, rhubarb and cherry. Good depth and complex flavour profile, plenty of acid to balance it out. Long clean finish. Entering drinking window for me.

  • Powerful, intense example of a Pinot. Strawberries, some cherry and a bit of earth. Initially the fruit is quite sweet, but quickly evolves into a dry, intense finish. It will drink well for few years yet.
