  • 45 minute decant. Rustic nose of dark fruit and hard candy with compost, kombucha, and hints of oil paints. Layers of leaves and earth cover the cherry fruits, dark acidity, and moss-covered stones. Structured, tannic finish with stones, pencil eraser, and weathered oak. The wine wasn't happening at this tasting - try decanting longer.

  • Prior review by JonMartin1520 spot on. These guys make Napa Cab for long term aging. This 8 year old, despite all day breathing, was youthful with tannins still intact. Stupendous wine that is their best since the 2007 & 2009. I’d wait on opening and open something else.

  • Smith Madrone makes old school Napa cabs that are closer to Cab based Bordeaux wines than Napa cabs. Decanting any bottles younger than 10 years is a necessity in my opinion. A couple hours of air and these wines absolutely open up and show one of the best QPRs you will find from a Napa cab. Dark fruit, solid tannin and structure to age at least another 15 years plus. Great to drink now, with some air, but I imagine sometime around 2030 or later these wines will be even more beautiful.

Complex wine, nose of dark fruit, some herbs and spice. Dark fruits with a long finish. Enough acid to age gracefully. Very balanced wine. Simply delicious.

  • Opened a 2015 by mistake as we had two 2014s left.🙈. The 2015 is everything you want out of a Napa Cab, but still youthful. Recommend older ones if you have them as the brothers make left bank stryle Bordeaux (heavy on the Cab👍) that requires the aging Great European reds need.
