La Paulée Chassagne-Montrachet Dinner-Moreau, Pillot, and Colin-Morey (Gabriel Kreuther, New York): Magnum. Palest of the 3 Moreau wines. Low pitched, fragrant aromas with obvious oak that recedes with air. Less heft than the Maltroie but elegant feel. Round entry full of orchard fruit, lower acidity, some herbs and floral inner mouth tones, and wood that reasserts itself on the finish. Open and flavorful but too loose.

Popped and poured with about 30 minutes of slow ox prior. An initial whiff from the bottle was reminiscent of some aged Chablis Premier Cru, but with more oak notes. A first taste from pouring into the glass was met with a matching nose of lemon, flint, and a most gorgeous flower bouquet. On the palate, focused ripe lemon, pith, a slight almond paste, and an incredibly elegant mouth feel that was plush and velvety, with just the right small amount of toasted oak and vanilla notes. As the wine sat in the glass longer and progressed over the course of 2 hours, the tartness and sourness (of lemons) became more pronounced, the wine even smoother, and some peppery and gingery notes came up at the start of the finish. A very sophisticated white burgundy and super approachable and ready to drink now, although you could certainly cellar it longer.

Oh boy - really delicious. Wonderful blend of struck match and citrus intensity on the nose, with flowers; it smells riper than wine #1. On the palate there's a tide of St Clement's flavour, with plenty of mid-palate impact and good length - rather mouthwatering. JM observes it has been well-nourished by its lees and has excellent body. Group #3

Better than my last showing. Generous nose of lemon curd, very good freshness, rich but racy. Popular at the table.

Expressive nose. Lemon curd, toasty oak jumping from the glass, medium+ complexity. Good mouth fill, I wished for a more mineralic finish tough.

Chassagne-Montrachet under the microscope with Jasper Morris MW (Zoom!): JM considers Bernard Moreau to be a benchmark producer with very astute winemaking. They have many holdings but tonight JM has chosen to use the domaine to illustrate the northern sector towards St Aubin.
