  • Bottle brought to drink at Oinoscent during afternoon service
This is a blend of Grenache and Syrah from 30yo vines on mica and granite soil. Using wholeclusters, the wine spent 24 months in tanks.
The wine was decanted for an hour

The colour is a bit hazy.
The wine is still tight, heady, decadent, earthy, floral and savoury, nice ripe red and black fruit, spicy and peppery with some leather.
THe wine is brutally fresh in the palate, the tannins are tight, showing medium acidity and body. There is a nice bitter orange/bergamot nuance here, earthy and savoury with a green "whole cluster" layer in the medium to long finish.
    The will require cellaring. Beautiful

  • Grande Colline at Red and White (Chicago, IL): Of the Ooka lineup, this was easily my favourite wine. Sure there are some mild natural elements here but it tastes more like a barrel sample of a mainstream wine than a finished natty one. The fruit expression here is very pure, and all the rest of the aromas and flavours are far less prominent. Surprisingly tannic on the back end. I suspect the ripe vintage helped a lot with this wine.
