Decanted about 2 hours and needed it. started out very tight, then blossomed. Black cherry, leather, underbrush, spice aromas. Medium body. Loaded with flavor, black cherry, leather, chocolate. forest floor, spice, floral. Smooth long finish. A perfect match to a spiced leg of lamb.

Celebrating 4th of July dinner with charcoal barbecued ginger/shallot/savory herbs marinated duck breast, fresh leafy greens and grilled summer ripe yellow peaches. I figured the West Block could handle the rich amd bold flavors and that was certainly the case. It accompanied the food perfectly. The nose was already amazing when I decanted upon opening, the flavors impressed accordingly after 3 hours of airing. This is more bold and masculine than the Rochioli Little Hill from the same year. Very impressive and enjoyable now, I think it will further soften and improve with time.

Special, very special. Masculine, but seductive. Black cherry, leather, spice on the nose. Best after 4-8 hours slow Ox, with soft tannins and a silky texture.

I wish I could afford this wine by the case. We love Rochioli but this is very special.
